We’ll get our hands dirty and dive into three different mediums to give you a taste of each. We’re not looking to fully develop work in this course, but to play with art making tools and discover which mediums you’d like to explore further. Of course you will walk away with some finished work, but this class focuses more on the art-making process than the final product.

The first two weeks will focus on charcoal drawing. We’ll study the basics of drawing and work through value studies to give objects shape and dimension. Next we’ll jump into a similar medium–chalk pastels to add color to our work! Color adds a whole different dimension and new challenges, but the vibrancy and flexibility of this medium is so worth it. For the last two sessions, we’ll dabble into watercolor. Watercolor is delicate and so much fun! Once you get the hang of it, it really is a blast to work with and is so easy and portable to use.
